BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder) proves there is an inconsistent interpretation of the law.
Gender affirming surgeries should be outlawed for the same reason BDD sufferers are not able to get their limbs amputated. Not just for Children but for Adults too! Ohioans need to say NO!
The psychological condition where a person desires or feels a need to have a limb amputated is called Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID), also known as Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) or Amputee Identity Disorder (AID). This is a rare condition where individuals experience a strong desire to have a limb amputated, often feeling as though the limb does not belong to their body or is not a part of their true self. This condition is considered a form of body dysmorphia and is often accompanied by significant distress and impairment in daily functioning. It is important for individuals who experience these desires to seek professional help from a mental health professional experienced in treating this condition.
Unfortunately, in this day and age - mental health professionals if they are consistent, will advocate for amputation to be consistent. So, are they really mental health professionals -or- are they woke advocates championing a disgusting and immoral proposition? Are they upholding and making decisions that are driven by the values of Ohioans? Have we been punked by the mental health community?
There are several reasons why medical professionals should not perform amputations on those with Body Integrity Identity Disorder (BIID), also known as Amputee Identity Disorder (AID) or Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). These reasons can be categorized into legal, rational, and moral arguments, as follows:
Legal Argument:
Performing an amputation on a person with BDD could be considered medical malpractice, as it goes against the ethical principle of non-maleficence, which requires medical professionals to avoid causing harm to patients. Amputating a healthy limb can cause physical harm, including pain, bleeding, and infection, and can also lead to long-term complications such as phantom limb pain and mobility issues. Additionally, performing such a procedure without a legitimate medical reason could result in disciplinary action or revocation of medical licensure as it should.
Rational Argument:
The desire for amputation in those with BDD is not rooted in physical pathology, but rather in a psychological disorder that causes individuals to experience a mismatch between their body image and their internal sense of self. Therefore, amputating a healthy limb will not alleviate their psychological distress, and may even exacerbate it by creating new problems and limitations. Instead, it is more appropriate to provide psychiatric treatment and therapy to help individuals manage their BDD symptoms and improve their quality of life without resorting to invasive surgery.
Moral Argument:
Amputating a healthy limb in response to a patient's request is a violation of the medical principle of beneficence, which requires medical professionals to act in the best interest of the patient. In this case, performing an amputation does not benefit the patient, as it does not address the underlying psychological disorder and may even cause harm. Moreover, it may be argued that it is morally wrong to remove a healthy limb simply because a patient desires it, as this goes against the value of respecting and preserving bodily integrity.
Performing amputations on those with BDD is legally, rationally, and morally problematic. Instead, medical professionals should prioritize the well-being of their patients and provide appropriate psychological support and treatment to help manage BDD symptoms and help them be happy with the body they have.
Mental Gymnastics
I am sorry, but there are no arguments that the mental health community can come up with that is not a double standard when comparing BDD to GD (Gender Dysphoria.) Are so-called mental health professionals going green light amputees for children who identify as a peg-leg? Nope - no money in it. I think and hope even society would see that how chopping off a perfectly good arm of an adult to make them happy - is perverse and immoral.
We see how easy it is for so-called professionals to bend their ethics when money is involved. The ongoing treatment for a now recognized class of mentally afflicted individuals with GD is a bonanza. To this point
Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD): BDD is a condition where a person is preoccupied with perceived defects or flaws in their appearance. In the case of gender dysphoria, this can manifest as a preoccupation with aspects of their body that do not align with their gender identity, such as their genitals or chest.
So, are we saying that Ohioans are okay with cutting off a male’s manhood and a female’s chest but not okay with cutting off a finger, toe, or arm? We don’t have to say it - that is what is happening.
Mental health professionals know that there is a lot of government money in treating a mentally disturbed person in helping them identify as a gender they are not. There is a lot less money in helping them through a temporary phase they are going through.
How is cutting off perfectly functioning genitals or chest doing no harm?
This is a Public Health Emergency
Ohio is performing gender affirming surgeries (mutilation) at an alarming rate. Doctors are also prescribing testosterone and other drugs for young girls wanting to be men - that make them permanently sterile. Does the Ohio medical community reflect the values of a state that “With God All Things are Possible?”
Remember, very few children or adults exhibit physiological conditions that may make one consider such surgeries as efficacious - such as being born with both sets of genitalia. That is less than 1 in 100,000 of those claiming to be being a gender that does not comport with the body that they were born with. That means maybe 3-4 such surgeries per year for the entire United States.
Are we a state that is going to continue to allow doctors to cut off the breasts of girls going through a tomboy phase?
The governor has it within his power to stop this immediately by declaring this practice a public health emergency. But guess what? The governor’s biggest donors are the hospital systems making a profit from Gender Affirming care. Who is paying for it - we are through Medicaid. Even though Ohio has a rule against the practice for Medicaid - it has been ignored under the DeWine administration. He has sold our children and values down the river.
Accommodating Parents Don’t Get Off the Hook Either
Parents and the legal community and school administrators that have gotten caught up in this social contagion of taking advantage of the mentally impaired need to be held to account - and not just financially. Detransitioners should be able to seek compensation for life- with no statute of limitations.
Participating in a child or an adult’s mental delusion is not help!
In Conclusion
We need a sea change shift in Columbus, OH. Our legislators are moving inexcusably slow and with no urgency. As they do, more and more of the mentally impaired are being mutilated. If half the money that is spent on gender affirming care was spent on gender confirming care - we would have much better public health outcomes. What it boils down to - those that are being mislead by the medical and mental health community under the guise of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, allow this practice of butchering to continue.
Pass HB68 to Enact Ohio Saving Adolescents from Experimentation (SAFE) Act sponsored by Gary Click - to save our children. This needs to be expedited with all due haste.
Pass laws that allow those afflicted with GD to more easily sue parents, legal professionals, and medical professionals and set no time limits on a statute of limitations for this crime.
Expand HB68 to include adults.
Have the legislature declare public health emergency under Article II, Section 1d of the Ohio Constitution and place a prohibition on Gender Affirming surgeries, School policies accommodating transgenderism, and prohibiting allowing transgender identifying females (males) from competing in women’s sports
Add a prohibition to the Ohio Constitution for the medical community to stop harming the mentally ill by physically removing perfectly functioning body parts that pose no danger unless a person was born with both sex organs, prescribing drugs to a mentally ill patient to aid them in mimicking a gender they are not, and mental health professionals are prohibited supporting gender-affirming care without a physiological condition being present.
Why should legislators do this? Because it is the right thing to do!
