Ohio Republican State Central Committee Fails to Protect Life
Are they who they say they are? Watch what they do - not what they say!
In a stunning display of hypocrisy and betrayal, the Ohio Republican State Central Committee has failed to pass a strong pro-life policy that would have prohibited funds and endorsement for Republicans who support abortion. Despite repeated assurances from pro-life members of the committee that the policy could be amended to allow exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother, the Republican leadership chose to water down the resolution with a pro-life in name only (PLINO) measure that was not binding and offered only lip service to the cause of life. Even that proposal was tabled.
This is a breach of trust of Republicans that cannot be ignored. When a party claims to be the party of life, it cannot endorse members who support abortion (Sarah Carruthers) or appoint abortionists Democrats (Mike DeWine). It cannot send confusing signals and expect to lead the nation. The Ohio Republican State Central Committee has failed to protect life, and its new chairman is to blame. The backdrop to this is that now the party will not have time to meaningfully fight against the pro-abortion ballot initiative on the books - again - thanks to Chairman Alex Triantafilou who still contends he is a pro-life conservative. Chairman Triantafilou moved heaven and earth before the meeting build support for the watered down substitute amendment.
The committee had a chance to pass the strongest pro-life policy in the nation, but it chose to betray its own principles. The committee's leadership has shown that it values political expediency over the lives of the unborn. By endorsing pro-abortion Representative Sarah Carruthers and Governor Mike DeWine, who defended Ohio Health director abortionist Dr. Amy Acton to keep abortion clinics open during the pandemic, the committee has sent a clear message that it does not truly value life.
It is a sad day for conservatism when the Ohio Republican State Central Committee fails to protect life. The committee had the opportunity to pass the strongest pro-life policy in the nation, but instead, it chose to betray its own principles and water down the resolution with a meaningless PLINO measure.
This is not a matter of politics; it is a matter of morality. The committee's leadership has shown that it values political expediency over the lives of the unborn. By endorsing pro-abortion Representative Sarah Carruthers and Governor Mike DeWine, who defended an abortionist to keep clinics open during the pandemic, the committee has shown that it does not truly value life.
Conservatives must demand better from the Ohio Republican State Central Committee. We cannot allow our principles to be watered down or ignored. We must demand a binding resolution that truly protects life, with exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.
Patty Gascoyne of the Committee for a Better Ohio and Ohio Promise Keepers stated, “The Ohio Republican State Central Committee has failed to protect life in a stunning display of hypocrisy and betrayal. Despite the repeated assurances of pro-life members, the committee's leadership chose to water down the resolution with a meaningless PLINO measure that offered only lip service to the cause.
This is not a matter of politics or morality; it is a matter of integrity. Chairman Alex Triantafilou is to blame for allowing a substitute resolution to be introduced at a special meeting that clearly was not germane. He like so many of his predecessor cemented himself as a chairman that intends to marginalize conservatives. Keith Cheney and Gloria Kirker’s words did not match their actions, and their hypocrisy became self-evident to anyone that watched the very orchestrated live-stream event.”
State Central Committeewoman Jessica Franz said “Conservatives must demand better from the Ohio Republican State Central Committee. We cannot allow our principles to be watered down or ignored. We must demand a binding resolution that truly protects life, with possible exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother. The conservative movement must continue to fight for traditional American values and demand that the Ohio Republican State Central Committee do the same.”
Conservatives are still fighting liberals on the State Central Committee who cannot give conservatives and traditional American values a chance to flourish. It is time for the Republican leadership to listen to the pro-life members of the committee and pass a binding resolution that truly protects life.
The measure had support from nearly 100 of Ohio’s pro-life organizations.
This is not surprising given they endorsed Democrat Mike DeWine before ANY OTHER individual wanting an opportunity to run for Republican Governor of our great state.
Don't you love when "people" rant about accuracy, rave about what "they" know and criticize with the great importance of "their" superiority... without a name, hidden by anonymity. So brave.
